twins??? the "story" behind it

i have had SO MANY people ask me what the "twin" story is that i think it is PAST time to write about it. so, here it is.

During the process of submitting paper work for the adoption, i was feeling drawn to request more than one child. We had been praying all along for God's leading. i wasn't sure if we were being drawn to request a girl with a baby sibling or twins or what???? everyone around me thought i was pretty crazy so i kept my feelings to myself. We went on vacation in June with our great family friends, the Brooks (claire, wyatt and kiddos) It was June and we were at the point in our paperwork where we were needing to decide the "child" or "children" we were requesting. i had decided i was going to take the week "off" from thinking about the adoption because we were on vacation.

the first day we were in Charleston (at a water park on St James Island) i saw this cute pair of twin girls (about 18 months). the next day at a restaurant, we passed a booth (on our way to our booth) and a mama and daddy were holding their twin infant girls. the third day we were in Charleston we were going to the beach. we picked out a site and the guys carried out all our "stuff" for the day. after we had settled in, i looked over at the group settled a few yards away from us. There were twin girls, about 2 yrs old, running back and forth from the ocean to their staked out place on the beach. i had seen 3 sets of twin girls in 3 days.

that last day we were on vacation we were all back at the water park. Isaac and i were sitting on lounge chairs watching our kids play in front of us. I started to talk to God in my head. Basically i told Him i thought it was kinda strange that i had seen 3 sets of twins in 3 days. Was He trying to give us a sign that we were to request twin girls? that seemed pretty crazy! this would be a huge undertaking if we were seriously going to bring 2 children into our home! we HAD to know for sure this is where He was leading us as I knew the road ahead was not going to be easy. i told Him if He was giving us a sign, then i would see one more set of twins that day at the water park. i just kinda threw it out there. LESS THAN 30 SECONDS later, a family walked in front of our lounge chairs. the mama was pushing a stroller with twin infant carriers. i stopped her and said, "excuse me, are there twins in there?" yes, there was. i immediately told isaac and we were kinda laughing and shaking our heads. when we told judah he said, "right now we're a family of 5 but then we'll be a family of 7 and that is God's perfect number!"

We got home from vacation and i called our case manager. She discouraged us from requesting twin girls for several reasons; we'd be waiting a long time, twins girls rarely came available for adoption, etc. However, her final response after our explanation was “let’s wait and see what God does.” So after our paperwork was finished, we were placed on the waiting list for twin girls…I began to worry. I was impatient. I doubted. We got the call from CWA on 1/31 (3 months from submitting final paperwork) that they had received the referral for these little girls. We were next on the list to receive a referral and just like God had shown us, the referral was twin baby girls! I can't tell you how long the social worker and I laughed, cried and talked about how amazed we were at God's miracle. She said everyone in the CWA office was just shaking their heads. And the story gets even better from there. I have written about a lot of the story (in past blog posts) but to be honest there is so very much more that happened! some of it is too personal to put on a public blog and a lot of it is just too much to write - like it could maybe fill a book or something!

This was our referral picture. the girls had just arrived with their birth father at the orphanage.

this is a picture of the girls with Isaac at the orphanage before i got there

This was when we were in Ethiopia to get the girls. They had to be kept REALLY warm.
we had been back in the States about 2 weeks or so when this was taken of me and Ariel.

That's so amazing and exciting Molly McButter :) Love those little girls and even more love the story of how God specifically and purposefully chose them for you and you for them. Hugs!

I sent the story along to some friends of mine who are heading to the Ukraine in a couple weeks to pick out their children. I can only imagine how hard a decision it is going to be but I know they will be encouraged by your story and how God is faithful and brings families together for His purposes.
